Cruise Line: P&O Cruises
Ship: Ventura
Destination: Mediterranean
Sailing date: Fri, May 30th 2008, 00:00
Pros: The food is great & some of the entertainment
Cons: Too big, too many unsupervised children

The ventura is far too big and holds too many passengers. The available deck space for sun bathing is inadequate when the staff constantly ignore the do not reserve sunbeds guide lines. The prom deck is so narrow in places that it is not possible too walk side by side, it is also shaded all day and was shut for long periods of time, the deck surface is very slippery when wet.

The staff on the whole are very good and friendly but the maintainence staff and particularly there supervisors are totalty ineffective.

The food was of a very high standard with marvellous menus and very high quality ingredents.

The showers on board are very cramped if you are of average size or above.

The entertainment was dissapointing apart from The Ventura Theatre Company and Maria King who were both excellent.

The family based approach being adopted on Ventura has resulted in a messy overall feel to the cruise. If P & O want to adopt the Ocean Village approach to cruising I feel it would be better to have ships dedicated to this type of cruise instead of corrupting there existing core business with this Ventura approach.

A large percentage of passengers we spoke to said that they would not sail on Ventura again, this is also our view.

7 DAY CRUISE 23RD MAY 2008

After about ten Mini Cruises with P & O tried this cruise. Occupied a De Luxe stateroom with balcony, bath and shower with lounge. My wife and I are extremely critial people but found nothing whatsoever to complain about on this cruise. Everything everywhere was spotless. Food excellent. staff impecable. More than enough deck space for everyone and sunbeds. Esntertainment wass exeptional and the theatre was marvelous and held 780. Productions every night were brilliant and high quality. Cabin steward was excellent and did not bother us at all. Bottle of Champagne in cabin with chocolates on arrival. Two flat screen tv's in cabin. Dressing gowns and slippers also provided. Balcony excellent with patio doors. On the down side was the boarding where we had to queue for some time to get registered to go onboard this was after being in a traffic queue in the dockyard for just over an hour prior to this. Disembarking was no real problem and be disembarked reasonably quickly and found our vehicle nearby easily. Food was excellent as were all the restaurants and hotel staff who could not do enough for you. Onboard shopping is not so brilliant but the ladies appeared to like it. We were so impressed we have already booked with Ideal again for a 16 night cruise in July 2009 and cannot wait for it. After spending 17 years at sea with the Royal Navy, this ship is the Bees Knees

Ventura welcome party

Entertainment was poor, very poor. Worse than any other ship i've been on. Buffet was small, duplicate food on both sides so very little choice. Only plus was the food in Marco Pierre White's restaurant. Seems this ship is disliked by many.

Ventura

I sailed on the maiden voyage found the food especially the breakfasts almost cold, deck 7 midships had a smell of sewage throughout the 14 day cruise, some of the rails were still being varnished, waste bins in toilets constantly overflowing, tables never wiped down after use where dose it end?
